It was ALL about power couples at the annual Costume Institute Gala, and we can cover music, sports and film in one piece! I have my own pick for Best Dressed among these four (Kim and Kanye were covered separately here), keep reading below..
First of all, I love Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield, and also love the fact that they didn't go all matchy-matchy for the event. She is sleek and modern in a custom pink and fuchsia two piece by Thakoon. It's bright and bold and appropriately youthful, and he is cool in a shiny grey tuxedo jacket with contrast lapels, crisp white shirt and bow tie. There is something so natural about them.. and her fishtail plait is delightful. Young Hollywood at its finest.
Beyonce is uber-glam in Givenchy, a sheer beaded plunging gown with spike embellishment, massive drop earrings and a fishnet veil (just in case you didn't know how glam she was!). I'm not feeling this as much as I would like - Beyonce can be so bold, but this isn't her kind of statement. But Jay Z is chivalrous as usual, she dropped a ring on the red carpet, and he came to her immediate rescue... the ultimate Music Power Couple.
Charlize Theron and Sean Penn, now officially a couple, and attending the Met Ball? What the love of a good woman will do - Sean doesn't look too happy at the event, but he gets MAJOR kudos from me. A tad scruffy with the 'stache, but she is willowy and gorgeous in Dior Couture - a stunning strapless black and white fishtail gown. Black jacket thrown over her shoulder and white clutch, she is perfection. Two strong actors who both give back, a match made in Hollywood heaven.
Giesle Bundchen in Tom Brady in Balenciaga - they're a very attractive couple, as we all know, but there is something about him that bugs me here (sorry folks!). Perhaps he's earned the right, but he comes across as a little too smug. As for their fashion, her black burnout velvet gown matches his velvet jacket - for me, it's a little too contrived. Beautiful couple, yes, but they also seem to know it. A sports hero and his supermodel.
The winning couple for me? Coming off his fantastic stint as host of Saturday Night Live and her recent lip-synch battle on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield are my pick for Best Dressed Couple at the 2014 Met Ball!
