2012 Academy Awards - Red Carpet Trend

Bright colour is usually easy to find on the red carpet, and we tend to see one or two colours dominate (previous colours include both yellow and bright blue).. but the red carpet at this year's Academy Awards was more of an adventure in monochrome, white and black! We do have some notable looks in colour, but they are all unique shades of colour..

Emma Stone looked fantastic (and was very funny when she presented with Ben Stiller) weaing Giambattista Valli Haute Couture, and this was definitely worthy of a close-up look. Dramatic bow at the neck, and some gorgeous draping, she was the only celeb in this shade of red. And Michelle Williams stood alone (beautifully!) on the red carpet, as no one else wore her shade of bright coral.

Natalie Portman wore vintage Christian Dior red strapless polka dots and Livvia Firth was stunning in bright red.

Viola Davis surprised us in a va-va-voom green strapless Vera Wang Read more:

Red Carpet Trend: White at the 2012 Academy Awards - Gwyneth Paltrow, Milla Jovovich, Rooney Mara & more (Photos)

2012 Academy Awards - Red Carpet Trend

The Academy Awards were held tonight at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles, and while there were no real surprises during the show itself, the red carpet was a treat to watch!

Gwyneth Paltrow was my own best dressed of the night - in a very simple but very elegant gown by Tom Ford.. on the runway she had a cape attached to the dress, but when she presented Best Documentary with Robert Downey Jr, the cape had been removed, and the dress was as stunning without. A red carpet queen..

Milla Jovovich was the first celebrity arrival who wowed in a stunning white sequin asymmetric gown from the Spring/Summer 2009 runway - and it doesn't matter what season this dress was from (today, yesterday or three years ago), it's a stunner. Milla looked every inch the movie Read more:

Red Carpet Trend: Blush at the 2012 Golden Globe Awards - Charlize Theron, Heidi Klum, Kate Beckinsale & more

2012 Screen Actors Guild Awards - Red Carpet Trend

It didn't take more than a quick look to see that one of the major red carpet trends at the 2012 Golden Globe Awards was blush - and the variety of dresses and designers were impressive!

No one walks the red carpet like Charlize Theron, she showed plenty of leg in her blush gown by Christian Dior Haute Couture - the thigh high split, plunging neckline, statement bow, and even the embellished headband all combined for one of the most memorable looks of the evening. She may not have won for her role in 'Young Adult', but you can be certain she lands on all the Best Dressed lists!

More blush gowns included Heidi Klum in Calvin Klein Collection - she wore a statement turquoise necklace by Lorraine Schwartz, which was the only splash of colour we saw paired with blush (everyone was styled very neutral and/or sparkling!). Kate Beckinsale wore a twinkling strapless gown by Roberto Cavalli, and Julie Bowen looked feminine in Reem Acra - usually more edgy on the red carpet, Julie matched her sweet dress with retro curls.

A bit more edge was found on Mary J. Blige in Michael Kors, and E! presenter Guiliana Rancic upstaged many of the celebrities she was interviewing in Basil Soda! Check out the blush gallery below, and click here to shop for blush dresses online.. Read more:

Red Carpet Trend: White at the 2012 SAG Awards - Zoe Saldana, Rose Byrne, Judy Greer, Viola Davis & more

2012 Golden Globe Awards - Red Carpet Trend

The red carpet at the 2012 Golden Globe Awards was full of shades of blush, but the 2012 Screen Actors Guild Awards was all about white! Shades of cream, ivory, white, in an assortment of styles - strapless, sparkling, draped, simple, or even with gold accents.

Rose Byrne gave us the most unique look of the night, she chose a stunning cream embellished jumpsuit by Elie Saab. This was from his Fall/Winter 2009 Haute Couture collection, and the intricate crystal and beading details were stunning. With a plunging neckline and razor sharp bob, Rose made this fashion statement all her own. It was a risk, but it most definitely paid off!

Zoe Saldana also chose white haute couture on the red carpet, in an unusual dress by Givenchy.. it had a lot going on, from a tank underneath, to silver embellished neckline, and plenty of twinkle as she moved. This dress was from Spring/Summer 2012 Haute Couture, which means it was just shown at Paris Fashion Week less than 10 days ago!

Lots more chose white or cream - Katrina Bowden went strapless in her Amsale gown, Judy Greer and Gretchen Mol chose short sleeves (in Collette Dinnigan and L'Wren Scott, respectively), and Viola Davis looked elegant and was classic in Marchesa. Julianna Margulies in Calvin Klein Collection and Kristin Wiig (in Balenciaga) wore off-white that was nearly stone colour, and Berenice Bejo looked terrific in a silvery white dress by Ralph Lauren.
